It looks like a lot of work went into creating a Beholder. I like the background setting on this one also.

Lighting around the face is off (especially bottom and right). Other than that I like this.

Thank you for linking your sources. Your beholder is stunning and believable! Great chopping skills ya got.

great he's a real ugly fella.
My suggest might be to look at the fringe lighting and add a little more of the slightly purple cast to accentuate the cheek bones. As I see it on my monitors the back ground is very dark and when I turn up the brightness i see the archway maybe the gamma and highlights could be brighter on the background?
All in all a real winner with great use of source and nice that you've shown the components.

Thanks everyone. I made this on my crappy laptop and now see on my desktop that it should have been lightened a bit which I have done

The orginal is 3600x4783 px (about 12x16" at 300 dpi) if need be. :)

Congrats soli! It's a great beholder - I especially love the big eye. for some reason the comment I left on your image didn't come through. I mentioned that this was my favorite, so I'm not surprised it won :)

I just checked in my stats...and for some bizarre reason you had never beaten me before, like you said. There's a first time for everything :D You've made your point now, ok?? Let's go back to now to the way things were!

Great job on this piece...
Did you paint it from scratch?

What a nightmare! Reminds me very to the ol' 3D-Shooter Doom - I think there was a monster like this too (but not really sure ...).
