I've been playing D&D for 17 years now. I was really happy this contest gave me the opportunity to try my hand at a beholder. It was SO much fun :D
If my attempt at humour isn't entirely successful, the Beholder can of course be placed in any sort of background. Quick example here.
The main two sources for the beholder are these two fish, both purchased from Dreamstime.com.
I used one of their past logos to make it more realistic. Hope you like it.

The eyes are from different sources, from cats to people to snakes,
The body was made from a lizard skin,
The arms were made from an elephant trunk. The teeth are another lizards scales.

All images used from wizards.com website. Those found on google.com were copyrighted by the company so I guess it is all 100% legal.
The only this was that the monster was of poor quality which of course affects the overall feeling of the design..
